Assessments

I have to admit...when I first started thinking about homeschooling, the teacher assessment is what scared me the most! However, they have turned out to be one of the most valuable things I have done. I just completed my assessment with Kathy this week and it proved to be no exception. I switched assessors this year because I felt Kathy and I were on more of the same wavelength when it came to our approach to teaching. Kathy is a certified teacher and current homeschooler. She has graduated one and has three more to go. She is a Charlotte Mason/Classical gal and actually heads up the Classical Conversations group in my area. I was scheduled to spend about an hour with her, but ended up spending over 2 1/2 hours with her. It was great! I went away with so much information. I have to admit that I was a little intimidated by Kathy after hearing her speak a few times, but she was so laid back and helpful. She had me fill out a questionnaire before I met with her so she could find out more about me and what questions she could help me answer. It was fantastic! She answered all my questions and so much more. She had boxes of examples of how she has done things with her children. She had wonderful suggestions and we just had a great time talking. I can't wait until next year! Turns out the assessments are now one of my favorite parts of homeschooling...Thank you Kathy!

Yay! I'm glad you came away from the assessment time feeling encouraged and refreshed. That's a sign of a good assessor! :)

I totally agree with you that portfolio assesments used to stress me out. Now I look forward to it each year too. :D

See ya tomorrow!

Hi Angie,

I know what you mean. Even the word 'assessment' is intimidating. Great job! Even though I don't post very often, I do check in as I have the RSS link established. Keep blogging. I love hearing what is going on in your lives! I love the logo too!
